Andrew Kambugu, MB.ChB, MMed, FRCP is the Sande-McKinnell Executive Director at the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), College of Health Sciences, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. He is an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota, USA, and honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at Makerere University. He received his basic medical training as well as his Masters in Internal Medicine at Makerere University in Uganda and undertook specialist training in infectious diseases at the University of Utah, USA, and the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. Dr. Kambugu previously served as the Head of the Research Program Prevention Care and Treatment Programmes at the IDI. He has over 14 years of HIV clinical and programming experience and is a member of two national HIV subcommittees of the Ugandan Ministry of Health. He has made significant research contributions in the areas of antiretroviral therapy and opportunistic infections and has over 130 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
