Dr. Angela Wahl, PhD is a Research Instructor in the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases and the Center for AIDS Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Wahl received her doctorate degree from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and completed her postdoctoral training in the laboratory of J. Victor Garcia at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research is focused on HIV transmission, pathogenesis, prevention, and persistence. She is a Mathilde Krim Fellow of the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR). She has developed a novel and highly innovative in vivo bone marrow/liver/thymus (BLT) humanized mouse model for HIV infection that is colonized with human gut microbiota (HuM-BLT mice) that she has implemented to directly examine the effect of human gut microbiota on HIV acquisition and infection.
