Ariane van der Straten, PhD, MPH, is a Senior Fellow within the Women’s Global Health Imperative (WGHI) program at RTI International and a Professor at UCSF. She conducts socio-behavioral and clinical research to develop and evaluate various biomedical HIV prevention and multi-purpose prevention technologies; she is also leading the development of a biodegradable implant, as an end-user informed long acting delivery platform. For the past 25 years she has accumulated extensive experience with integrating clinical and socio-behavioral research in the design and conduct of biomedical prevention studies globally, with a focus on preventing HIV in women.
