Dr. Babafemi Taiwo is the Gene Stollerman Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Northwestern University, and a member of the Executive Committee of the NIAID funded AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), one of the largest HIV research networks in the world. He has extensive experience in medical education and research capacity building through NIH/Fogarty funded programs, including serving as PI of the Multidisciplinary NeuroAIDS Research Training to Improve HIV Outcomes in Nigeria over the last 4 years. His research is focused on discovering novel antiretroviral treatments to optimize virologic control and address the causes and effects of residual inflammation/immune activation. His research led to authorship of over 100 publications related to HIV/AIDS and contributed to six books. He is also the Editor of the HIV section of Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and a former Editor of AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses.
