Bakita is a doctoral (PhD) researcher at the University of Oxford. She's been awarded two scholarships and a fellowship to conduct her research in Oxford's Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, where she'll address how people research their own health conditions and illnesses within academic settings (i.e. as peer and co-researchers). Previously, she was the main researcher on a multi-award-winning HIV and infant-feeding study (NOURISH-UK). Bakita is also a poet and the chair of Glitch, a multi-award-winning UK-based charity dedicated to online safety, particularly for Black women and marginalised people. She was formerly the chair of the Global Network of Young People Living with HIV (Y+ Global).
