Berend van Welzen (1986) is currently working as an internist/infectious diseases specialist at the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMCU) in the Netherlands. After obtaining his MD degree in 2011 at the University of Utrecht, he specialized in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the UMCU – earning the certification as a medical specialist in 2019. Besides his work as infectious diseases specialist, he is currently a PhD candidate (supervision prof. A.I.M. Hoepelman) at the University of Utrecht. The main focus of the current research is the epidemiology and treatment of both liver- and bone-related morbidity in HIV-infected patients.
