Since 2008, Brian West has been a member of the European AIDS Treatment Group, EATG, serving 6 years on their Board of Directors.
He was the lead project worker for the EATG on EmERGE, a European Commission funded Mhealth project, and is currently Chair of the Partners in Science program.
Brian served 5 years on the Board of AIDS Action Europe, and currently serves on the Board of the European Patients Forum on behalf of the EATG.
He received a PGD in Social Development and Health from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
Brian lives in Edinburgh, Scotland and is a gay man living with HIV since 1983 – nearly 39 years now.
He has a long-standing history in HIV/AIDS activism, having been involved since 1986.
Brian was involved with Waverley Care from 1996 onwards – originally as a service user. It is Scotland’s largest NGO provider of services for people living with HIV and Hepatitis C. He worked there for 4 years, and then served on the Trustees Board for over 10 years.
Previously, he sat on the Board of Directors of HIV Scotland – which deals with policy in Scotland. Brian has given community submissions into the Scottish Medicines Consortium – the HTA agency which approves drugs for use in NHS Scotland, and is also a member of the UKCAB.
