Carina Pener Kugelmas , MD, FAAP, DABOM

Biography

Dr. Kugelmas graduated from University of Southern California School of Medicine and started her Pediatric training at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland. She then joined her husband at University of Kentucky to finish her third year of residency. After practicing general pediatrics for over 20 years, Dr. Kugelmas completed a clinical fellowship in Pediatric Nutrition at Children’s Hospital of Colorado. During the fellowship she received advanced training on malnutrition as well as obesity and related metabolic comorbidities, and later received her board certification in Obesity Medicine. Dr. Kugelmas works at Denver Health Medical Center as part of a multidisciplinary team in the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic caring for children and adolescents with obesity and related comorbidities, including Type 2 diabetes and steatotic liver disease.

She is also an adolescent medical provider in the Adolescent Bariatric Surgery Program at Denver Health.

Dr. Kugelmas is a board member of the Colorado Obesity Society, which serves to educate and connect providers in Colorado who care for patients with obesity and advocate for improved obesity care. She also serves on the Global NASH council and the NASH Lifestyle committee.
