Carlos Beltrán, MD

Carlos J. Beltran Buendía obtained his Medical degree and completed his training in Internal Medicine and in Infectious Diseases in Chile, continuing is postgraduate education at the Infectious Diseases Department, Howard University Hospital, Washington, D.C. He has been working in HIV and Infectious Diseases clinical fields for the last 20 years. Currently is the Head of the Infectious Diseases Department at the Hospital Barros Luco and Full Professor of Medicine, Director of the Department of Medicine Campus Sur and Chief of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases Fellowships Programs of the University of Santiago.

He leads the AIDS Committee of the Panamerican Infectious Diseases Society (API) and the Latin-American Workshop Study Group with 100,000 patients in follow up from 11 countries. He is the President of the Chilean AIDS Cohort Group in charge of the largest prospective HIV Cohort from a single Latin American Country. He is the executive Secretary of the Chilean HIV Guidelines panel and of the panel for Latin American Standards for HIV Diagnosis, Care and Treatment in collaboration with API and PAHO.

He has been Chairman of several Chilean Conferences and Latin-American meetings, member of several official Chilean Delegations before the United Nations, PAHO, WHO, UNAIDS and Chilean representative in the Steering Committee forming the UNITAIDS. He is author of books published by the Ministry of Health and PAHO, several chapters in different books of Medicine, more than 100 research works presented at Chilean, European, American and World HIV and Infectious Diseases Conferences and prize awarded for several works in Chile and Latin America.
