Carmina Fumaz, MSc, PhD

Biography

Dr Carmina R. Fumaz, PhD, is a clinical psychologist at the Infectious Diseases Department located at the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol, Badalona, Spain. Dr Fumaz received her Ph.D. in Medicine in 2009. Previously she had obtained her Master's Degree in Family Therapy in 1998 and her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1992. She has conducted patient-oriented research of the impact of HIV infection and antiretroviral treatment on patients' well-being. Her research includes the repercussions of antiretroviral drugs in Central Nervous System, the key factors affecting adherence in long-term antiretroviral experienced patients and the burden of concomitant pathologies in quality of life and emotional status. Dr Fumaz's research is also focused on the study of aging and the psychological processes associated.

Dr Fumaz has served as a teacher in the Rovira i Virgili University and Open University of Catalonia. Dr Fumaz is a counselor member of the National AIDS Plan of the Spanish government and several national scientific societies. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals including JAIDS, AIDS Patient Care STD, AIDS Care, and Brain, Behavior and Immunity, among others. Currently, Dr Fumaz forms also part of the COVID-19 clinical care and research response at the Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol.
