Biography

Dr. Casper Rokx (1983) is an internist and HIV/infectious diseases specialist at the Erasmus University Medical Center (Rotterdam, Netherlands) where he leads the HIV clinical research unit. He holds a PhD in Medicine (2016) after doing (inter)nationally awarded research. He did postdoctoral fellowships at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London (UK) with dr. Anton Pozniak and in molecular virology with prof.dr. Charles Boucher and dr. Tokameh Mahmoudi. His research group focuses on HIV cure and elimination with translational studies, clinical trials, cascade of care optimization projects, and more recently studies on COVID-HIV interactions. He is PI in the Erasmus MC HIV Eradication Research Group (EHEG), the NL4Cure and EU2Cure consortia, and collaborates with researchers globally including from Africa, USA and Ukraine. In co-creation with PWH and data scientists, he started the #aware.hiv initative (www.awarehiv.com) to improve HIV identification in healthcare settings including by using artificial intelligence. He is scientific committee member of EACS’ Young Investigators (YING) and initiated the YING Innovation Platform (YIP) to connect talented European HIV scientists.
