Christopher Amuyunzu is a dedicated mental health mentor and youth advocate with extensive experience working with adolescents and young people. He worked as a Mental Health Mentor and Sexual Reproductive Health Advocate with UTENA Organization. In this role, he mobilized children aged 10-14 for mental health sessions, helping them understand the importance of mental health and access services, while documenting all sessions for reporting purposes.
In June 2022, Christopher became a Mental Health Champion with Basic Need Basic Right Kenya, where he campaigned to end stigma and discrimination associated with mental health. He also shared his lived experiences to inspire others in community campaigns and attended mentorship sessions to further develop his advocacy skills.
Since April 2019, Christopher has volunteered as a Youth Adviser, OTZ Champion, and Youth Mentor at Makadara Hospital, working with adolescents and children living with HIV. His responsibilities include providing mentorship, facilitating access to contraceptive and sexual reproductive health services, and ensuring adherence to treatment plans. He also works as a peer supporter with the Ambassador for Youth and Adolescent Reproductive Health Program (AYARHEP), offering support in focused group discussions with young people living with HIV.
