Biography

Dr. Cossi Angelo ATTINSOUNON is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Parakou in northern Benin. He is the head of the teaching and research unit in infectious diseases and the head of the care site for HIV infected patients at the University Hospital of Borgou. He has been an Associate Chief of Clinic at the Faculty of Medicine of Nancy (University of Lorraine, France). He is the President of the Beninese Society of Infectious and Tropical Pathology (SOBEPIT).

He did his basic medical studies in Cotonou and his postdoctoral studies in infectious and tropical diseases at Cheick Anta Diop University in Dakar. He also holds a master's degree in project management and a master's degree in health services management.

Before becoming a teacher-researcher, he was Technical Coordinator of the pilot project on decentralization of antiretroviral treatment and antiretroviral tri-prophylaxis for mother-child HIV prevention conducted by "Médecins du Monde France" in Benin. He was also a Consultant on the Multisectoral Project for the Fight against HIV-AIDS in Benin financed by the World Bank. He was a Departmental Head of the Project to Intensify the Fight against Malaria in Benin financed by the global fund and conducted by the international NGO AFRICARE.

He has more than 15 years of practical experience in clinical care and in the response to HIV/AIDS.

He has published over 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has mentored 25 graduate and postgraduate students to date. His main research interests are HIV, opportunistic infections, reproductive health in PLHIV, antimicrobial resistance, prevention of care associated infections and emerging diseases.

In recent years, he has been involved in the development of infectious diseases in Benin by actively contributing to the initial and continuing medical education of healthcare workers to improve the quality of care in infectious diseases in his country.
