CDR Fitter is currently serving as the Co-Lead for CDC’s COVID-19 Response Vaccine Task Force.
CDR Fitter serves as the Branch Chief with the Immunization Systems Branch within the Global Immunization Division at the Center for Global Health. CDR Fitter has extensive clinical experience abroad, serving as a Schweitzer Medical Fellow in Gabon and as a healthcare provider at an outpatient HIV/AIDS clinic in South Africa. Before joining CDC in 2011, David served as a Peace Corps volunteer, helped establish the Institute for Reproductive Health country offices in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Benin with Georgetown University, and worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Rwanda. Since joining CDC in 2011, CDR Fitter has served on the Emergency Response and Recovery Branch's Health Systems Recovery Team as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer, Medical Officer, and Team Lead. He worked primarily in Haiti where he provided technical assistance to the National Tuberculosis Program. CDR Fitter has deployed to emergencies in Guinea, Kenya, and Syria. He has supported Global Health Security Agenda implementation and provided subject matter expertise in areas including surveillance, reporting, and antimicrobial resistance. From 2016-2019, CDR Fitter was CDC Country Director and Division of Global Health Protection Program Director for Haiti.
