David Kershenobich Stalnikowitz, MD, PhD

Biography

David Kershenobich Stalnikowitz graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1963.  He specialized in gastroenterology at the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition “Salvador Zubiran” (INCMNSZ) (1966-1970) and in Hepatology at the Royal Free Hospital in London, England (1971-1974) where he obtained his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of London (1975).

He is currently the Director General at the INCMNSZ. He occupied the position of Secretary of the General Health Council from October 2011 to June 2012, where he carried out activities related to the public health needs of the country. He was President of the National Academy of Medicine (2011-2012). He created the Mexican Foundation for Hepatic Health, of which he is the Honorary President. He was president the International Association for the Study of the Liver (2000-2002).  

His research field is focused fundamentally on the study of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver and its complications.  He is a leader in the field of research into fibrosis of the liver. He has registered 2 international patents related to his investigative work.  He has written close to 500 publications, of which 203 are original articles and 85  Chapters of books.
