Dr. Dimitri Diavatopoulos leads a research group at Radboud University Medical Center (Radboudumc), focused on the prevention of respiratory tract infections. After receiving his MSc degree from Wageningen University, he obtained his PhD degree at Utrecht University and subsequently performed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Melbourne.
Dr. Diavatopoulos has published extensively on vaccination and respiratory infection and is the principal investigator on several human infection studies for major bacterial pathogens in Nijmegen. He coordinated the IMI-2 PERISCOPE consortium, focused on accelerating the development of next generation vaccines against whooping cough. He is also a founding partner of InFECT-NL, a recently established national initiative for early clinical research into new treatments and vaccines for infectious diseases.
His research focuses on experimental and translational vaccinology, aiming to close the gap between basic research and clinical application.
