Enrico Girardi, MD

Biography

Enrico Girardi graduated in Medicine (1981) at Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, where he also specialized in Internal Medicine (1988) e Medical Statistics (1992). He is presently Director of Clinical Epidemiology Unit and Acting Scientific Director  at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases, Lazzaro Spallanzani, Rome, Italy.

His research interests include: epidemiology and control of HIV-associated tuberculosis, tuberculosis in migrants, epidemiology and control of HIV infection, cost-effectiveness of control interventions for HIV infection and tuberculosis, epidemiology of viral hepatitis. His current projects are focused on the HIV continuum of care, on strategies for HCV elimination in high-risk populations and on intervention to control HIV associated tuberculosis, epidemiology and control strategies of SARS-CoV2 infection.

He served as a member of several Italian national and regional committees on tuberculosis, HIV and hepatitis C. He also served as consultant at WHO on tuberculosis and HIV and at ECDC on tuberculosis control. He is presently a member of the Italian National AIDS Committee.
