Estevão Nunes is an infectious diseases specialist doctor, with most of his professional experience in the field of HIV and Viral Hepatitis and more than 15 years of experience in Clinical Research, including his role as Principal Investigator in multicenter randomized clinical trials. He has a broad background in HIV/AIDS care as a clinician, and presently he is the Vice director of medical care of the Instituto Nacional de Infectologia/FIOCRUZ and responsible for both our inpatient and outpatient clinic, leading multidisciplinary teams.
He has a special interest in the field of antiretroviral therapy (cART), its complications and challenges. His PhD degree was obtained with his work on the field of simplification therapy, as the responsible for KalMo study, a randomized clinical trial investigating the feasibility of Lopinavir/ritonavir monotherapy as maintenance treatment on HIV infected patients with suppressed viral load. As a member of the advisory committee of antiretroviral therapy on Ministry of Health he has had the opportunity to contribute for the last two years on updates for the Brazilian Guidelines of HIV treatment.
