Professor Esther Ngadaya, a Professor of Public Health and Epidemiology, is a widely recognized researcher, and two times NIMR-Muhimbili best scientists, has been working with the National Institute for Medical Research, Muhimbili Research centre (NIMR-Muhimbili) as the principal research scientist for almost 20 years. By profession, she is a Medical doctor with Post graduate diploma in Health Economics and PhD in Epidemiology. Esther has completed a four years post doc program studying Tuberculosis and other zoonotic diseases of public health importance. She has published almost 100 papers in peer reviewed journals on various subjects including tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health and non-communicable diseases. She has done extensive research studies among disadvantaged communities including pastoralist communities. Prof. Esther has extensively designed, won and implemented more than 70 high impactful projects mostly in the area of infectious and non-infectious diseases. She has been the principal investigator (PI) in a number of projects which employed different study designs including experimental and non-experimental designs. In addition, she has conducted over 20 high impactful consultancies as the lead consultant with government of Tanzania, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, Universities and other research organizations. She has supported programs on developing strategies for translation of research into policies. She is academic supervisor for MSc and PhD students at the Kampala International University-Tanzania, University of Dar es Salaam, Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, London School of Tropical Medicine and University of Bergen in Norway. Prof. Esther is also the chair of the EXIT-TB consortium, a core chair of OPTIC-TB consortium, and a member of a number of different networks. In addition, she is a member of the National Health Research Ethics Review Committee and National Clinical Trial Review Committee. She is a leader, teacher, supervisor and mentor.
