Faryal Khamis, MD

Biography

Dr. Faryal Khamis is a Senior Consultant and Head of the Infectious Diseases Department at the Royal Hospital in Muscat, Oman, where she Chairs both the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee and the Infection Prevention and Control Committee. As an expert in her field, Dr. Khamis is also a member of a number of National Committees and Task Forces that advises the National Ministry of Health in Oman.

Dr. Faryal Khamis completed her medical school training with honors at the Sultan Qaboos University in Oman in 1993. Following her completion of a residency program in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, USA in 2000, she completed two fellowships programs both in Infectious Diseases and in Medical Microbiology at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina. She continues to maintain her American Board Certifications in these subspecialties.

Dr. Faryal Khamis has authored several publications in scientific journals and has contributed to several National Infectious Disease-related Guidelines and Hospital Guidelines. Her main research interests include respiratory viral infections, infections in immunocompromised patients, including those with HIV, antimicrobial Stewardship and SARS-CoV-2.
