Dr. Francesca Odhiambo is a consultant physician with a wealth of expertise in HIV program management and research leadership. After completing her medical training, she initially worked for the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Busia in 2004, before advancing to HIV program management on US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) funded projects (2008-2021). As part of HIV program management, she oversaw national HIV services and capacity-building, for the University of Maryland, transitioning to the KEMRI-University of California San Francisco Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) collaborative (2017-2021) in Kisumu County.
Dr. Odhiambo hereafter moved to the role of Clinical Research Scientist at KEMRI in 2020 serving as Site Principal Investigator, Co- Investigator on multiple NIH-funded studies including COVID-19, Tuberculosis, cervical cancer screening and vaccination, tobacco cessation interventions as well as clinical trials involving new antiretroviral therapies. Her research interests include the intersection between non-communicable diseases (NCD) and HIV infection, as well as the impact of HIV on health across the lifespan for women living with HIV.
