Francisco Javier Escalada San Martín is Director of the Department of Endocrinology and Nutrition at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and a collaborating professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Navarra.
After completing the specialty in Endocrinology and Nutrition at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid (1988-1991), he was a fellow of the FIS (BAE 92/5107 and BAE 93/5094), obtaining a doctorate from the University of Alcalá de Henares in 1994. Later, he joined the Santiago Apóstol Hospital in Vitoria (1994-2005) as an attending physician of Endocrinology (1994-2005), later moved to the Lozano Blesa University Clinical Hospital in Zaragoza (2005-2007), and finally to the Navarra University Clinic, where he has been working since September 2007, with a dedication mainly to diabetes mellitus.
He is a member of the Diabetes Working Group of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition and of the Lipids Working Group of the Spanish Endocrinology and Nutrition Society and presently the President of the SEEN Foundation.
He has been Deputy Chief Editor of the journal Endocrinología, Diabetes y Nutrición until April 2019.
His main areas of research are diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular risk, diabetic nephropathy, and non-alcoholic fatty liver steatosis.
