Frank Tacke, MD, PhD

Biography

Prof. Dr. Frank Tacke, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor for Hepato-Gastroenterology and Executive Senior Physician at the Department of Medicine III of the University Hospital Aachen, Germany, was originally educated at the medical school in Hannover, Germany and has received training at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, working on new gene therapy strategies (1998-1999), and as a post-doctoral research training (2004-2006) at the Mount Sinai Medical Centre, New York, working on monocyte/macrophage and dendritic cell biology. Since 2006, he has been a clinical physician and research laboratory leader (currently ~20 group members) at the University Hospital Aachen, Germany. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, Critical Care Medicine and Infectious Diseases. In 2012, Frank Tacke was appointed an Associate Professor (W2-professorship) at the RWTH University Aachen. He has (co)authored >350 peer-reviewed original and review articles, his work has been cited over 10,000 times, and his h-index is 58. He has received several prizes and awards (including the prestigious Emmy-Noether-research group funding by the German Research Foundation). He has served on the Governing Board of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (Board member 2014-2017, Vice Secretary General 2017-2018). Frank Tacke has been appointed as the new chairman of Hepatology/Gastroenterology at the Charité University Medical Center in Berlin (start April 2019).
