Fred A. Lopez, MD

Biography

Fred A. Lopez MD, is the Richard Vial Professor and Vice Chair of Medicine and an Assistant Dean at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. A native of New Orleans, Dr. Lopez received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University, and his MD from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Afterwards, he returned to Stanford University Medical Center where he was an intern, resident and chief resident in Internal Medicine and a fellow in Infectious Diseases. After completing his fellowship, he returned home to LSU-New Orleans to join the faculty in the Department of Medicine.   He has written more than 160 journal articles and chapters in textbooks, He is a contributing author to chapters in major textbooks including Cecil Textbook of Medicine and UpToDate. Dr. Lopez is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
