Garry Brough

Biography

Diagnosed with HIV in 1991, Garry has championed patient involvement and peer support since co-founding the Bloomsbury Network in 1999. He became the Bloomsbury Clinic’s first Patient Representative in 2003, while also coordinating the YMCA's HIV exercise referral programme.  
In 2008 he joined Terrence Higgins Trust to take up the role of Membership & Involvement Officer and then Service Lead for the myHIV online support services.  
He moved to Positively UK in 2015 to coordinate their national HIV peer mentor training programme, Project 100 and develop its HIV treatment literacy qualification. He stepped up as Joint Interim CEO from 2018-19 and is now Lead for Peer Learning, Partnerships and Policy, managing the FTCI-funded ChelWest Peer Support Integration Project and Empowerment Programme, which aims to address internalized HIV stigma.    
Garry has served as Chair of the UK CAB and as a community representative on committees for BHIVA, BASHH, BMA and NHSE’s HIV CRG. He currently sits on the NHIVNA Executive and London FTCI Leadership Group. 
He is committed to speaking publicly about his personal experiences of living with HIV, with the aim of dispelling misperceptions and stigma around HIV.
