George Papatheodoridis is Professor in Medicine and Gastroenterology of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Director of Academic Gastroenterology Department and Liver Transplantation Unit of “Laiko” General Hospital of Athens, Greece. He is also President of the Hellenic Transplant Organization.
He graduated with excellence from the Medical School of Athens University. He was trained in Gastroenterology in Greece and had a 2-year research fellowship in Hepatology at Royal Free Hospital, London, UK.
He was member of EASL Scientific Committee/Governing Board and is EASL and AASLD (fellow) member and founding member and treasurer of Hepatitis B & C Public Policy Association. He is president of Hellenic Foundation of Gastroenterology & Nutrition and was president of Hellenic Association for Study of Liver and general secretary of Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology.
He was co-ordinator (2011-2012) and member (2016-2017) of EASL HBV Guidelines and is a member of the EASL HDV Guidelines (2022). In Greece, he is chair of National Committee for Gastroenterology, National Scientific Committee for Viral Hepatitis and committee for Implementation of National Plan for Hepatitis C Elimination.
His main research interest has been focused on viral hepatitis. He has (co-)authored >380 PubMed papers having total IF >2800 and >22000/32000 citations (h-index:65/82) in Scopus/Google Scholar. He was Associate Editor of Liver International and has served as Editorial Board member of several international journals and as reviewer for all gastroenterology/hepatology journals, many major internal medicine journals, ILC/EASL-UEGW abstracts, EU 7th Framework Programme for research and Horizon 2020. He has given >165 lectures, chaired >55 lectures/round tables and presented >320 abstracts in international meetings.
