Heather Jaspan, MD, PhD

Biography

Heather Jaspan is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Global Health at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Research Institute and an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She obtained her MD and PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at Tulane University, and trained in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases at University of Washington/ Seattle Children’s Hospital. Her lab utilizes mouse models and human cohorts and clinical trials to interrogate translational immunologic and microbiologic correlates of HIV transmission at mucosal surfaces, including the infant gut and the male and female genital tracts. A further focus is infant immunity in general, and with a specific focus on infants born to mothers living with HIV.
