Janvier Serumondo, MD, MPH, MTM

Biography

Dr Janvier is Director of Sexually Transmitted Infections and Other Blood Borne Infections Unit in Rwanda Biomedical Centre from 2017.He is actively involved in hepatitis management and elimination, part of WHO Hepatitis Guidelines Development Group and Focal Person of CDC Africa for Hepatitis elimination in Rwanda.

He has been Director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Unit in the National Reference Laboratoryfor6 years, which resulted in accreditation of this laboratory. He therefore acquired a vast experience in Laboratory Quality Management System and ISO Accreditation Standards.

He has also been Director for Blood Transfusion Services Unit in Rwanda for 2yearsand acquired an international experience in the area of Transfusion Medicine from Belgium Transfusion Services.

Dr Janvier is a Medical Doctor, holding 2 Masters’ degrees in Public Health and in Transfusion Medicine both from the University of Liege, Belgium. He has occupied health leadership positions for16years in Rwanda and greatly contributed to the development of several documents (strategic plans, policies, guidelines, Laboratory Policies & Procedures etc.), the accreditation of Rwanda National Reference Laboratory and hepatitis elimination. His research interests include Viral Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Laboratory, Transfusion Medicine and Public Health at large.
