Biography

Dr. Gonzalez is the Head of the National Reference Lab for viral Hepatitis at the Virology Department since 1990.

He was born in Pehuajo a small town inside the country where he did his preparative studies. Then he completed his studies as a Biochemist at the University of Buenos Aires in 1983. Since 1978 as a student, he worked at the Virology Department. In the eighties, he has worked to improve the serology Diagnosis with the development of a Lab network in the whole country. In the ninethies he begun his work to improve the National Surveillance System for v hepatitis forming a network of Sentinel Units all over the country. Also supporting and promoting the Immunization against HBV in HCW.

Since 1993 he support and work to do the screening for HCV in blood donation in the whole country besides HBV. He started to claim for a National Program for the Control of viral hepatitis in Argentina. Also we incorpored the molecular diagnosis and characterization for HBV & HCV.

In the earliers 2000 he begun the HEV diagnosis. In 2005 he support and promote within an experts board, the implementation of one dose for the HAV Immunization in one year old children after a nation wide outbreak. We have done three serology monitoring of the duration of Ab and we keep doing the molecular surveillance for HAV.

In 2010 he and his team were partnership to support and promote the formation of a National Program for v hepatitis and since, as a National Reference Lab, they are member of the consulting board   

Since September 2020 he is a member of SAGE WHO for the immunization against HAV.
