Juan Michael Porter II

Biography

Juan Michael Porter II is a Black gay man living with HIV who lectures on and writes about health justice, advocacy, and culture. In addition to serving as the staff writer and contributing editor to TheBody.com and TheBodyPro, he is also the co-host of "The Future of HIV Care"—a podcast that connects medical professionals to the latest innovations in and best practices for providing care. Porter's reportage combines data dives, personal narratives, and policy analysis to address the real-world consequences of ever-shifting legislation on public health decisions.

As a culture journalist, Porter has written for PBS American Masters, SF Chronicle, Christian Science Monitor, NY Observer, Positively Aware, American Theatre, Time Out NY, Queerty, Into More, Playbill, Documentary Magazine, SYFY Wire, Scholastic, and Dance Magazine. He is the first Black man to serve as a nominator of the Drama Desk Awards; is a National Critics Institute and Poynter Power of Diverse Voices fellow; and has lectured for Dance Theatre of Harlem, USC Annenberg, University of Texas at Austin, Kent State University, 92nd Street Y, College of Mount Saint Vincent, Jose Solis’ BIPOC Critics Lab (at the Kennedy Center), and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
