Ken Kunisaki, MD, MS

Biography

Dr. Ken Kunisaki (koo’-nee-sah’-kee) is a Pulmonologist, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota, and a Staff Physician at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Dr. Kunisaki grew up in Northern California, did his undergraduate work at the University of California-Davis, medical school at The Ohio State University, and completed further training at the University of Minnesota including a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, a fellowship in Adult Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and a MS degree in Clinical Research.

His academic research work is focused on clinical trials and observational studies in COPD and sleep apnea, and he has a particular interest in HIV-associated lung and sleep health. He was the Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded Pulmonary Substudy in the START randomized trial of immediate vs deferred ART initiation and he is currently PI of the NIH-funded Sleep Substudy in the POPPY cohort, a UK-based observational cohort of older persons living with HIV.
