Laurent Sandrin, PhD, is presently Chairman and Chief Science and Technology Officer of Echosens (Paris, France). He graduated from ESPCI (Ecole Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris) engineer school in 1996 and Pierre et Marie Curie University. During his PhD under the direction of Pr Mathias Fink between 1998 and 2000 (Laboratoire Ondeset Acoustique, Paris, France), he developed the first ultrafast ultrasonic imaging device and the technique of transient elastography.
He co-founded Echosens in 2001 where he invented and developed FibroScan®. Based on Vibration-Controlled Transient Elastography, FibroScan®is the first quantitative elastography device using shear waves. It is now used all over the world in research and routine clinical practice for the management of patients which chronic liver diseases.
Inventor on 20 different patent families, he received in 2007 the Nouvel Economiste award of Researcher of the Year and was nominated in 2010 for the Marius Lavet award of the Engineer – Inventor.
His current fields of interest include elastography based medical devices, medical IT and in vitro diagnosis.
