Linda Chang, MD, MS., is a Professor and Vice Chair for Faculty Development in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, and a Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland (UM), School of Medicine (SOM), as well as an Adjunct Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins SOM. Dr. Chang completed her B.S. in Biochemistry, her M.S. in Physiology and Biophysics, and her M.D. from Georgetown University SOM. She then interned at Los Angeles County/USC, and completed her Neurology Residency, as well as her Neurophysiology and Neuroimaging Research Fellowships at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. She became a tenured Faculty at UCLA (1993-2000), and was recruited to be Chair of the Medical Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory (2000-2004). Prior to her recent relocation to UMSOM, Dr. Chang was a Faculty at the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa (2004-2017), where she directed a Neuroscience Research Program, co-directed the UH-QMC MR Research Center, and continued her research in neuro-HIV/AIDS and/or substance use disorders. She is interested in comparing the aging brain with early brain development, and has evaluated how exposure to substances, including methamphetamine, marijuana and tobacco, may impact brain development in children and in neonates. She served as PI on multiple NIH grants continuously for > 25 years. She is currently a MPI for the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study in Baltimore. Dr. Chang is a member of the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse, and of the Council of Councils at the NIH (2018-2024). She also serves as Section Editor or Board members for multiple Neuroscience and Neuroimaging journals. She is an elected member of the American College of Neuropsycho-pharmacology, and an elected Fellow member of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, as well as the American Neurological Association.
