Lord Peter Booth

Biography

Lord Booth of Houghton-le-Spring is a member of the United Kingdom House of Lords. He was created a Life Peer by Rishi Sunak in February 2024 for his political voluntary work.

Peter Booth is a graduate of the University of Essex where he studied Government. His career started as a research assistant to a Member of Parliament. Lord Booth was for many years involved in the optical industry, first as an optical retailer and own 7 optical stores in London & Brighton and then as a producer of designer spectacle frames.

Lord Booth retired in 2012 and moved to Cornwall following open heart surgery. Retirement didn’t suit him and he has spend the last 10 years volunteering in politics, and for the last 3 he was chairman of the voluntary part of the Conservative Party.

In early 2024 he was appointed to the House of Lords by then Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. He now sits as an opposition peer in the House of Lords.
