Lucio Gama, PhD

Biography

Lucio Gama, Ph.D., is the Director or Scientific Collaborations for the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases within the National Institutes of Health. He is responsible for the assessment, tracking, and coordination of collaborative efforts between the VRC and extramural investigators evaluating HIV broadly neutralizing antibodies and vaccines in clinical trials. He is also a part-time Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, investigating HIV/SIV transcription latency and reactivation in myeloid cells, especially microglia. Dr. Gama received his Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, in immunology, where he identified a novel population of suppressive monocytes in HIV and SIV infection.
