Mayara Secco is a physician who graduated from the Fluminense Federal University, Niterói. She completed her medical residency in Infectious Diseases at the Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectology, Fiocruz (INI-Fiocruz). She obtained her Master's degree and her PhD in Clinical Research in Infectious Diseases from the same institution. Currently, she works directly in clinical care and research in the field of HIV prevention and care and sexually transmitted infections at INI-Fiocruz, coordinating the local response to the multinational mpox outbreak.
