Nicholas Niwagaba

Biography

Nicholas is a Ugandan man born in Kampala (1992). In 2016, He graduated from St Lawrence University with Degree in social work & social Administration and also holds a Diploma in social work from Nsamizi training institute of social development in Uganda. Since February 2012, He has been working with Uganda Network of Young People Living with HIV/AIDS (UNYPA) as a program Manager and currently working as the Executive Director and as a member of the communities’ delegation to the Global Fund Board to fight TB, AIDS & Malaria. As UNYPA’s Programs Director & later Executive Director, He has led a big YPLHIV team to do advocacy to increase access to quality SRHR/HIV services in different projects.ie. REAct (Rights Evidence Action), a tool for collecting evidence of human rights violations in a health setting
and Crisis response especially for young key population, the ASK (Access Service Knowledge) which helps close the information gap on sexuality and sexual and reproductive health services; which included also a pilot (PHDP) research study among the YPLHIV in Uganda to explore their lived experiences. and lastly the LINK UP Project That mainly focus on making a significantcontribution to the integration of vital sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV interventions for young key populations at country level through advocacy among other projects that he has provided leadership to. He has represented young people on different high-level forums and panels as a speaker and a moderator; International AIDS Conference, International Family planning conference, Global Fund consultations, European Development days and at the Africa Union. Nicholas has demonstrated both excellent leadership and organising skills. He is respected by his peers and has a calm, powerful and thoughtful way of speaking up on sensitive and complex issues around gender, sexuality and sex, on behalf of young people living with HIV in Uganda.
