Biography

Nyanda Elias Ntinginya is the Director of Research Coordination and Promotion and a Principal Research Officer at the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) in Tanzania, possessing a rich and diverse background in the field of medical research. Hailing from Tanzania, he is an MD, holding an MSc in Tropical and Infectious Diseases and a PhD in Medical Research-International Health.

With over 16 years of experience, he is a seasoned professional in research on TB (including preventive treatment), HIV, and comorbidities, among others. His roles have spanned from serving as a Sponsor representative, Principal Investigator, Leader, and Coordinator at institutional, national, and international levels. His abiding interest lies in leveraging the potential of research to tackle pressing global health challenges, with a primary focus on TB and comorbidities. His commitment extends to enhancing the overall research environment and strengthening health systems to generate evidence to inform policy and practice.

He actively participates in numerous national and international research networks, scientific boards, technical working groups, and committees, including the TB and Leprosy Programme, the Presidential Special Advisory Technical Committee on COVID-19 in Tanzania, and the PanACEA Executive Group. He is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the FAST-TB initiative supported by the USA NIH/NIAID and coordinated by CRDF Global. He is passionate about mentoring and building the capacities of early and mid-career researchers to shape the next generation of researchers. Before his current appointment at the national level, he led the Mbeya Medical Research Centre, which is also under the Tanzanian National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), offering invaluable strategic research leadership since 2016.
