Raquel Martín-Iguacel, MD, PhD

Biography

Dr. Raquel Martin-Iguacel, originally from Barcelona, Spain, obtained her medical degree from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She has been working in Denmark for over 20 years and is currently a Senior Consultant in Infectious Diseases at Odense University Hospital and an Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark.

Her primary research focuses on medical epidemiology, particularly late HIV diagnosis, opportunities for earlier HIV detection in primary healthcare, and HIV and tuberculosis co-infection. She has been actively involved in large-scale cohort studies, including the Danish HIV Cohort Study, with cross-matching to several nationwide Danish registries, and more recently, the Catalan PISCIS HIV Cohort.

Beyond research, she is deeply engaged in medical education, teaching and examining medical students in infectious diseases and HIV, as well as contributing to clinical training programs for healthcare professionals.

She has authored multiple publications on HIV epidemiology, late presentation, cardiovascular risks in people living with HIV, and infectious complications in immunocompromised patients, contributing to a broader understanding of these critical areas in infectious disease research
