Dr Simbarashe Mabaya is a dedicated public health leader with over 16 years of experience in transforming lives through health interventions. Grounded as a clinician, he has exceled in complex, fast-paced environments, specialising in areas such as Reproductive Health, HIV, and Immunization. Simba is currently a Senior Technical Adviser at Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance in Geneva, Switzerland. In this role, he provides key technical support to Gavi's vaccine programmes across 55 low-income countries. Notably he has contributed to the design of the programmes for the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines under COVAX and the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine as well as supporting the work on enhancing health campaign effectiveness. Currently he is leading the design of the Gavi programmes for the Hepatitis B Birth Dose and Rabies Post-Exposure prophylaxis vaccines. Simba's expertise extends to diverse roles, including with the Ministry of Health in Zimbabwe, I-TECH, ICRC and WHO in the areas of HIV, STIs, Viral Hepatitis and Primary Health Care. Simba's academic journey includes a medical degree from the University of Zimbabwe, a Master of Public Health from the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp, and an Executive MBA from the Midlands State University in Zimbabwe.
