Sin How Lim, PhD

Biography

Dr. Lim is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia. His research focuses on substance use epidemiology and HIV behavioral interventions among high-risk men.  In the past 10 years, he has worked with local NGOs in improving the prevention and treatment programs for key populations in Malaysia. More recently, he collaborated with the clinicians and NGOs to advocate and implement HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis and HIV self-testing services for MSM and transgender women in Kuala Lumpur. Currently, Dr. Lim is leading two Global Fund projects: 1) to implement and evaluate an integrated HIV self testing services for MSM and TGW in Malaysia, 2) to develop and evaluate “ChemFun Support Online” – a web-based program to provide stimulant users in Malaysia with a World Health Organization-endorsed behavioral intervention and other harm reduction resources related to sexualized drug use (Chemsex (chemfunsupport.online). Additionally, Dr. Lim is a co-investigator of two USA NIH research projects based in Thailand and the Asian Pacific MSM Internet Survey, a pilot study of HIV related experiences and needs among MSM in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Japan. Dr. Lim is currently the associated editor for AIDS Education and Prevention and BMC Public Health.
