Will Nutland

Biography

Will Nutland is a health and social justice activist, researcher, writer and health promoter. He’s worked in community-based HIV prevention for over 25 years, including as Head of Health Promotion at the UK’s Terrence Higgins Trust. In 2008, Will joined the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to undertake a doctorate in public health and he is an Honorary Assistant Professor at the School where he teaches in health promotion, and applied communicable disease control. With an interest in community-based research, his research areas have included the acceptability and implementation of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in London; the barriers and motivators to accessing PrEP in Black MSM; the design of evaluation tools for health promotion interventions in East Africa; and building community HIV research capacity in Kenya and South Africa. Most recently he has undertaken research into “do-it-yourself” HIV prevention and how generic PrEP is sourced outside of established health systems. In 2015 he co-founded PrEPster (www.prepster.info) – a grass roots group that educates and advocates for access to PrEP. He is the co-founder and a director of The Love Tank (www.thelovetank.info) - a health promotion non-profit company. He is a founding member of INOPUP – the international network of people using PrEP.
