A well-recognised world leader in Family Medicine, Dr William Wong actively engaged with WONCA, contributed as a member of WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Committee on HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections (STAC-HHS 2021-24); to a number of WHO guidelines on HIV/ sexual health issues; and the set-up of WONCA Health Equity Special Interest Group in 2014. For almost two decades, Dr Wong’s work has centred around infectious diseases, preventing their transmission and identifying the impact of these infections on vulnerable populations. Addressing the social dimension of health and ensuring equitable access to high-quality health services remain a unifying theme in his work.
Dr Wong has a strong track record of attracting research and infrastructure grants with multidisciplinary teams. He is the investigator of 45 competitive research grants (awarded >HK$45million) and several projects commissioned by the HKSAR and Australian Governments. With over 160 peer-reviewed publications, his contributions to research have led to international recognition with >60 invited lectures and workshops. He is the principal architect of the first primary care guidelines on chronic hepatitis B management in China in 2021.
