Yusuf Yilmaz, MD

Biography

Dr. Yusuf Yilmaz is a clinical hepatologist with a special expertise in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

His research interests in the field of NAFLD are mainly focused on elastography (Fibroscan) and biochemical biomarkers, with the ultimate goal of targeting liver biopsy to patients at high risk of having steatohepatitis and fibrosis.

He is also interested in the pathophysiological mechanisms, the natural history of NAFLD, as well as novel therapeutic targets.

Current Academic or Administrative Positions:
Associate professor of medicine at the Marmara University in 2012. Director of the Institute of Gastroenterology in 2014 and of professor of medicine in 2017. President of the Turkish Fatty Liver Study Group within the Turkish Association for the Study of the Liver (TASL). Member of the European Association for the Study of Liver (EASL) and serves as principal investigator in ongoing phase II/III clinical trials of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), of which he is the leading recruiter.

Publications 

Dr. Yilmaz has published more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers and has a h-index of 45 (December  2021).
