Charoen Chuchottaworn, MD

Biography

Dr.Charoen graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Chiangmai University in 1982. He received a grant from the Japanese International Cooperative Agency (JICA) to study TB epidemiology at Research Institute of Tuberculosis (RIT), Kiyose, Japan in 1984 and also from Canadian Thoracic Society to study Mycobacteriology at Laboratory of Center for Disease Control (LCDC), Ottawa, Canada, in 1988. He received the Thai Board of Internal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, and Critical Care Diploma in 1984  and 1994, respectively. He has worked at the Central Chest Institute of Thailand (CCIT) since 1985. He experienced as head of several departments at CCIT: Microbiology Division, Pathology Division, Respiratory Medicine and Critical Care Division, Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU), Research and Development Division, and Center of Excellence of Tuberculosis.

Dr.Charoen is a well-known TB specialist in Thailand and has taken care of drug-resistant TB patients for more than forty years. He was the Thai principal investigator of many important international TB clinical trials such as TMC207-C208, TMC207-C209 of Bedaquiline, REMox study of Moxifloxacin, and NC006 study of Pretomanid. He has been a member of the Thai Clinical Practice Guideline Development Committee of TB and DR-TB since 1994. Currently, he is chairman of the National Experts Committee of TB and DR-TB Case Management.
