Elliot G. Raizes graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1981 and was trained as an Infectious Diseases specialist at the Medical University of South Carolina. He served as a consultant in Infectious Diseases and HIV specialist from 1987-2007 in Atlanta, Georgia. He joined the US Centers for Disease Control Division of Global HIV/AIDS in 2007 and has served on the WHO HIV guidelines committees in 2010, 2013, 2015 and 2018. He also is a member of the WHO HIV ResNet Steering Group and serves as the DGHA and PEPFAR point of contact for HIV drug resistance-related issues. He has served as co-investigator on multiple protocols related to HIVDR in PEPFAR-supported countries. Most recently he has represented CDC for the PEPFAR/COVID-19 task force and also has served as lead for the CDC Health Systems and Worker Safety COVID-19 Taskforce.
