Biography

Farouk Chughlay is a Medical Director in Infectious Diseases Early Development at Roche, contributing to the organization’s Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) long-term vision of changing the lives of patients with acute and chronic viral and bacterial infections. In his role, he leads early-stage clinical projects through proof of mechanism and proof of concept, to transform molecules into new medicines in an area with substantial unmet medical need. The mainstay of his current focus is on the development of new molecular entities for the treatment of chronic Hepatitis B Virus infection.

Farouk hails from Cape Town, South Africa and holds degrees as an MD, Master of Medicine (MMed), Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology (FCCP), and Diploma in HIV (DipHIV) from the University of Cape Town. He is a specialist clinical pharmacologist with experience as an academic clinician researcher and industry drug developer. His clinical, research and development experience, spans infectious diseases such as Hepatis B, Malaria, HIV, Tuberculosis, COVID-19; Drug-Induced Liver Injury and Nutritional Health Science.
