Dr. Hideta Nakamura is a Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital of the Ryukyus and an Assistant Professor at the University of the Ryukyus Graduate School of Medicine. He completed his postgraduate training in infectious diseases at the University Hospital of the Ryukyus and received specialized training in HIV medicine at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine in Tokyo, Japan. In 2011, he earned his PhD from the University of the Ryukyus for his research on adjunctive diagnostic methods for Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia. He later served as a visiting research fellow at Imperial College London in 2016 and 2018. His current clinical and research focus is the relationship between gut dysbiosis and frailty in people living with HIV.
Dr. Nakamura is an active member of Japan’s PrEP Implementation Committee and serves on the International Liaison Committee of the Japanese Society for AIDS Research (JSAR). He played a key role in establishing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between JSAR and the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS), fostering educational collaboration between the two organizations. Additionally, he is a member of the editorial board for HIV Research and Clinical Practice.
