Biography

Dr. Nicoletta Policek is the Chairperson of UK-CAB. Nicoletta is a criminologist and has 30 years of extensive professional experience in the field of social and criminal justice focussing on policy, research, systems thinking, management, education and training. Her work experience spans different geographical and legal settings influencing and changing governmental policies and practices in addressing human rights violations, with particular focus on interpersonal violence, sex work, sexual and reproductive rights, prison and migration/statelessness.  Since her HIV diagnosis in the early 1980s, Nicoletta lives openly with HIV, campaigning to develop services, programmes and projects that advocate for access to testing, treatment, care, and support. She has campaigned at local and national levels both in Italy and in Scotland, where she moved in 1991. Since then, she has worked to facilitate opportunities for HIV+ women, so that all different voices can be heard, and actions can then follow. Over several decades, Nicoletta has been involved in activities which ameliorate the relationship between patients and social and health care practitioners. She led projects and campaigns addressing HIV victimisation, stigma and discrimination providing leadership and governance to different HIV charities. Until 2021, she was the Chairperson of HIV Scotland. Currently, Nicoletta is involved with BHIVA as community representative on the BHIVA Guidelines, she is a community representative on Scotland Fast-Track Cities National Consortium and until December 2022 she was a IPAC Fast track Cities Commissioner and the chair of the Right to Health Sub-committee. Nicoletta is programme co-chair of the UK HIV Outcomes, a research associate with Sophia Forum, and she is participating in many different patient-led initiatives nationally and internationally. Nicoletta strongly advocate for Participatory Action Research as the opportunity to have meaningful community led research.
