Biography

Ms. Ntombasekhaya (Khaya) Mlandu is presently a nurse manager of a large community health center in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. She is a member of the Green Light Committee for Drug Resistant Tuberculosis at the WHO. As a clinical nurse practitioner providing HIV care, she was the first nurse to independently diagnose and treat Multi-Drug Resistant TB in SA, thus establishing the proof-of-concept of the safe and effective management of DR-TB and HIV co-infection by nurses. Nurse-led models of care for DR-TB are now recommended by the National Department of Health of SA.
